Tilly **** SPECIAL NEEDS**** Read all information and requirements.

  • Female. Estimated birthday is around 8/6/19, making her under a year old.
  • Potty trained, child, cat, dog friendly. She is in a foster home with all of the above and is a playful and sweet girl. Will be at shy at first with new people.
  • Has the possibility to live a shorter life, but this cannot be guaranteed. She may live a very long life. She is our little miracle girl.

History/ About:         Tilly was about 2 weeks old when she came to us. Her mother and 4 babies were saved from a kill shelter. One kitten passed away when small. The mommy and 3 babies were doing great. Tilly had a few fevers when small but quickly overcame them. However, one day her two brothers broke with a fever and were brought to the vet. Little Remy and Sunny were found to have FIP. So essentially, most kitties run into coronavirus, however not all overcome the virus the same way. In some kitties, the virus turns in to FIP. FIP has no cure, it is fatal. Tilly's brothers both had to cross over rainbow bridge. It was very hard on our rescue and foster family. The next shocking thing happened though, their mother, Callie, broke with a fever. She was also found to have FIP and had to cross over rainbow bridge. Due to their mother also having it, it led our vets to believe that the babies had gotten it genetically. During all of this, Tilly was closely monitored. Bloodwork done to make sure all was well, watching for any signs.  The odds were high that she may also break with FIP.  Tilly only ever ran a fever again when she was vaccinated. Like a reaction to the vaccine, then she would overcome the fever quickly and be fine!  She is our little miracle girl.

The thing with Tilly is, she may not live a very long life. She may break with FIP down the road, we will never know! All we know is right now, we have a happy little kitty that loves life. She is very sweet, docile, playful, and overall in a healthy condition. When vets view her, they say she looks great! When vets hear her families story they are shocked. They think that it is likely the kitten will break with FIP at some point, but then they see her and how gorgeous and healthy she looks so it brings on contradictions to whether she may eventually have it down the road or not. Basically, this girl looks good. During her spay our vet also checked for any signs of issues and did not see anything.

We think it may be possible that when Tilly was young and had fever, she actually fought off the virus that negatively affected her family. She was also the only one of different color so she may have had more of her fathers genes. Her mother and siblings were all orange and white.

Her future home HAS to be understanding that she may not live a long life though. We just can't guarantee. We will go over the signs of FIP with them so that they can always monitor her throughout her life. She is our precious gem and we would like to also stay friends with her adopting family.

Likely a common questions: Can your pet get FIP from Tilly? The answer is no. Techincally Tilly does not even have FIP, because that is fatal. She has been exposed to the feline coronavirus which most cats do come in contact with. It is a common viral infection in cats.  FIP comes from a bad reaction to that virus. If your pets are vaccinated you should be fine when it comes to the feline coronavirus, but this is always something you can discuss with your vet. Tilly has had bloodwork done to check for any signs and they have always looked good.

Coronavirus: Tilly has been exposed to the coronavirus as have many cats. No, this is not the same as the human form. It is feline coronavirus FCoV.  Pets have been being vaccinated against this virus for many years. It is a different form that the current one affecting humans. It is a common viral infection in cats. Many have had it and the owners would have no clue because they did not have a big reaction.

We are here for any questions but please do your own research first!

Personality:    Firstly, Tilly is mild tempered. She loves to lounge around and cuddle on her people. She is not afraid of dogs but will run if they are being rambunctious. She is good with other cats. Loves to play. Tilly is fostered with an 8 year old child and is good with being pet and picked up. If she ever feels threatened she will just run and hide. She does typically hide when a new guest visits the home, until she is comfortable with them. Then she will emerge and go about her usual day of lounging, playing, and getting cuddles with her people.

Requirements:    *Vet history IS required to adopt this pet. Understanding of her potential future is also required. We are here for any questions but please do your own research first!

* This is a longhaired cat, so shedding is to be expected. While she is young she takes care of her own pretty fur, but when longhaired cats get older they may need your help keeping tangles out.

*This kitty   is to be an indoors kitty. <<< If you are after an indoors/outdoors or outdoors only kitty then this is not the right kitty for you. We can help find one to meet those needs though! Just ask. This particular one...not it. Indoors only. <3

*We also do not approve of declawing. We request that you research that. We have seen many cases where cats become irritable or stop using the litter box etc. and people try to surrender them to us.

     Vetting:

  • Has kitty yearly vaccines and rabies vaccine. Tested for FIV FeLV and was negative.  Dewormed.  I am spayed!  I am on kitty Revolution to prevent against mites, fleas, ticks. It lasts 1 month from the date given.  I will be    Microchipped      (that fee is included in kitties adoption donation fee. It is a one time fee so no yearly expenses. We use PetLink. Just ask if you have questions on how microchips work.)  This kitty has also had bloodwork done when smaller too.

About Applying to Adopt:   This Kitty has a $40 adoption donation fee (microchip fee is included) This fee generally NEVER covers how much we actually spend on the animal. We are a 501c3 non profit so the fee goes back into our volunteer rescue to help us save more lives. We function solely on donations. Go to https://www.rockersrescue.org/info/adoption to apply for adoption. Try to include as much about yourself as possible.
