Maltese (long coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Senior : : Small
Our Rockers Rescue pets are currently in foster homes that help us save lives. When you choose to adopt from a rescue, you help open space for us to save another life in need. We are located around Shreveport, Louisiana. Thank you for considering adoption! Roxy (I take a pill once daily for cushings, details and requirements below)
History : Roxy was an owner surrender to our rescue. She is a purebred Maltese. We weren't worried about getting her former family to find her papers, the only papers we care about are adoption ones! She belonged to a senior lady whom is now in a nursing home. Her daughter took in Roxy for a while and then surrendered her to us. About Roxy: Personality: Playful and spunky! Loves toys!!! Good with cats and other small dogs. Good around respectable older children. At night Roxy sleeps in the bed with her foster mom. When she gets put on the big bed she loves to play around and roll about! It's so cute. During the day she loves to play!!!! She plays with her foster parents doggies and enjoys lounging on dog beds. She has a kennel hut that is hers to come and go in as she pleases. She is enjoying life. She can be bossy and yap at her foster siblings and also tries to play with them. Potty trained-fenced yard. Will have to learn your routine, but is an older girl so can't hold her potty for too long . Is kennel trained BUT is allowed free roam of home when foster isn't there. She's a good little bitty girl. Nervous in new situations. She's learning all this extra lovins and has really blossomed into a fun and happy girl. Roxy IS deaf. It does not slow her down from keeping up with the other dogs though! She is not a lap type dog. She prefers to be near you, but on the floor or her bed. We think this is due to her senior owner not having her on furniture. She's a tad awkward when being picked up because she was never use to it but she does allow it. We even bring her places in a dog stroller. She does bark to alert you of things, such as wanting a treat, wanting her food, etc. She tends to watch hands for sign language such as "come." She's a spunky girl that will play with other dogs but also be the boss and yap them back. Roxy will need regular grooming as Maltese hair doesn't stay short. The hair near her tail will never fully grow back. Medical explained below. Requirements: Fenced yard. Previous or current vet history. Lots of love! No large dogs as she is very tiny. No children for her safety, we just want her safe. Regular grooming required. Able to afford her daily pills and regular care. Vetting: Roxy is up to date on yearly vaccinations and rabies vaccine. Spayed. She had a negative heartworm test and is on heartworm prevention (We give the 6 month proheart shot). Fecal exam. On monthly flea/tick prevention (We use Bravecto 3 month chew). Microchipped via PetLink (lifetime registration) Also had a dental done with a few teeth pulled. Can still eat hard food. Had senior bloodwork panel. Treated for previous ear infection. CUSHINGS: We did 4 tests to finally confirm that Roxy has cushings disease. Potential adopter should research this if not already familiar. She takes a pill once a day. She needs a bloodwork recheck every few months to make sure her pill dosage is still good. It's just something you keep a check on. I think cost is around $40-60 a month for the medicine, Ill double check and you can ask your vet their cost for it for a 9lb dog. About Applying to Adopt: This pup has a $50 adoption donation fee (lifetime microchip fee is included) This fee generally NEVER covers how much we actually spend on the animal. We are a 501c3 non profit so the fee goes back into our volunteer rescue to help us save more lives. We function solely on donations.
