Lucas! Available for Adoption!
History: Lucas was saved THE DAY before he was set to be euthanized back in April. He was at Caddo Parish Animal Shelter. He was saved by another rescue! It turned out that Lucas had bad heartworms and he was unable to travel north to his rescue due to his heartworm status although he is being treated. He needs to find a home local to around Shreveport, Louisiana or nearby places. Due to this, our rescue asked to help network him here in the south. He is an AMAZING boy. He is very fortunate to be saved and survive! (see medical info below) MEDICAL: Lucas was very ill when rescued. He is also positive for Heartworm Disease. He was to be euthanized on the very day he was saved from the shelter. Once rescued, he soon became very ill and although he recovered, it took him a long time to get strong. The Heartworm Disease made him very weak and because he had such a hard time, the vets have advised to just continue on the "slow kill" method of heartworm treatment. It is not an expensive treatment, but he will need his normal regular Heartworm preventative EVERY MONTH for life. As ALL dogs should be getting anyway. In the next year or so, he will likely be cleared of the heartworms. He shows NO signs anymore of them physically. He runs, plays and acts as well as any other dog. But it’s imperative that he continue on heartworm prevention to keep killing off the worms. (vetting info below) Personality:
Vetting: Lucas is neutered, up to date on vaccines and rabies shot, microchipped, medicated for past illnesses. Also had some teeth removed as xrays showed he had been shot in the face in the past! He is all better now. ----- He needs to continue his heartworm prevention monthly like every other dog. He received a month of doxy pills to help kill of the baby heartworms and weaken the adults. Keeping him on the prevention until they die from age is his best route. This is called "slow heartworm treatment" Lucas is not a viable candidate for the fast treatment. The worms should die off within the next year or two according to the vets. Again, he has no outward signs that he even has them. Just ask if you have any questions.
