CHAMP! Available for ADOPTION!  ❤️
(Located around Shreveport, Louisiana) ***Senior -health explained below.

Champs History:
Champ was owner surrendered to our open intake shelter along with 3 other dogs. All in rough condition. One passed away before leaving the shelter and another had to be humanely euthanized after a rescue saved it. Champ was luckily saved by us and his remaining buddy was fortunate enough to go to adoptions at the shelter.
Champ had rough hairless skin around his eyes and muzzle. Some meds and tlc already have him looking amazing.
When I first met Champ at the shelter I fell in love. I had recently lost one of my beloved cocker spaniels and Champ reminded me much of mine. His SWEET personality stole my heart. He was a senior and sight impaired so the only way he would live was to be rescued. We worked to save him. Charlotte agreed to foster him until Stephanie could then continue the fostering job. Teamwork at its finest. Champ was saved!

About Champ: Champ may be a senior fellow but his puppy-dog face, wagging tail and ability to hop around on his hind legs will probably make you forget his age! The only sign of aging he has is his poor vision, but he still gets around fine. He basically cannot see much (maybe movement or shadows) beyond a few inches in front of his face but it doesn’t limit him at all.

He is very smart and learned his way around the house in less than a day and will move around fine on his own. Although I would say a home with few stairs will be best for him because they make him nervous and he usually needs to be guided down the couple that lead to the back yard in his foster’s house. Because of his vision, he also prefers to have his person VERY close.

He was almost named Shadow because he is basically your shadow everywhere you go; whether it is sitting beside you on the couch or under your feet at the table, he’s always there. He is relatively quiet, only barks when someone comes to the door or when you first leave, and he LOVES his stuffed toys-carries them around and likes to sleep with one. He is not destructive when left alone and will basically wait by the door for you.

❤️ His perfect companion/family would need to not be too attached to their personal space, enjoy copious kisses (because he LOVES giving kisses), enjoy the constant look of adoration he gives you and be able to provide an endless supply of plush toys so he can be a spoiled, happy guy for the rest of his days.

  • Champ needs a home where the owner is home a good bit. He loves his people and deserves as much love as he can receive. He has free roam of home when left alone.
  • He is fine with kids but we prefer only older considerate ones since his sight is impaired, we don't want children spooking him.
  • Good with other pets.
  • Can be shy around new people at first as he can't see well. Then once he knows them he is attached.
  • He appears to be a cocker spaniel poodle mix. Vets estimated him around 10 years old.
  • He was 17lbs when we got him so he probably gained a little bit. I'd guess still under 20 though.

VETTING AND ADOPTION DONATION: Champ has been neutered, microchipped under the rescue (see details below), bloodwork done that all looked well, dental cleaning (no teeth needed removed), up to date on vaccinations, fecal done and dewormed if he had worms. He had a heartworm test, which he WAS heartworm positive but he is a senior so he will not be able to do the fast treatment. He will need a family that can love and spoil him as he is.  He is on 6 month heartworm prevention shot and 3 month flea/tick pill. He also had medication for an infection that cleared up. We also sent off some bumps that were removed to specialists and they were benign so that was great news. We gave him an allergy shot as he was itching, it seems to have helped some so he may have some allergies. When we first got him the skin around his eyes and face were rough and awful, they have cleared up SO much. It was possibly a type of mite causing it and the bravecto flea tick pill he is on is great and clearing up skin like that. He looks great now!

Champ has a $150 adoption donation fee. This fee in no way covers the amount of donations used on this pet. It is just a way to help us with saving the next life. We are a 501c3 non profit rescue so your donation is tax-deductible. We are all volunteer so nobody gets paid, your donations go directly to the rescue.

About Microchip:    Our animals are microchipped under the rescue. By having the animals microchipped under us it provides us with a definite option of the animal being safe if found. If the pet ever goes missing you can let us know as well so we may help find them. If we ever are called on the animal being found we will try our best for 2 weeks to get in contact with the owners (as you should also be trying to get in contact with us) and if the owner is not found after 2 weeks the animal is legally ours again via our contract. This is a GREAT safety precaution for loving families. It means you will have an awesome caring team devoted to reuniting you with your baby. We ourselves have found microchipped dogs that have been rehomed and ended up in shelters on a euthanasia list. We take this very seriously as we never want that to happen to any of our animals. We also require first option of taking an animal back if the home does not work out. You can consider us a forever family for the pets adopted from us.
