Chewy/Sammi - He was found as a stray in Caddo Parish. I had been through stray hold quite a few days in a row and every day Chewy was there....happy to see me. Standing at the gate all excited. I fought with myself a lot saying "no, he's older and will be hard to rehome" then "but he is SO sweet I swear we have a connection and he has such a young spirit and is spunky" I waited to see if a rescue may grab him... But today was the day. I went to get him!
I decided to take the chance on the older dog that stole my heart. I struggled with what to name him. On the way to the vet he appeared to be chewing on his leash. And I thought "oh great." Well when I parked I realized he found a chew stick in the kennel! I busted out laughing! He was so giddy and excited to have it! I said that will be your name! Chewy!!!
I found out some of Chewy's past and his real name is Sammi.
He was rehomed, then rehomed again to what was thought to be a good home then told "he was given to a friend who gave him to a friend" At that point I stopped looking for whoever let Chewy down.... Someone out there.... someone didn't care. This older baby sat in an open intake shelter for a week and nobody cared to try to find him. It makes me livid.
Chewy is 13 years old.
I am happy to say he is neutered and heartworm free though! Praise God! His heart sounds great as well! I took my chances with the older dog that stole my heart... And am so glad I did!!! And yes he has cataracts but he seems to see very well out of both eyes! Just scrawny and wanting food!

Chewy is neutered and is up to date on shots and has had 6 month heartworm prevention, and an approved fecal exam. He is also microchipped. We are about to have his teeth cleaned and a possible hernia removed too!
His adoption fee is $50.
