Poppy

  • Female Intake date: November 19, 2018
  • Age estimated 1-2 years.
  • gained weight and is currently ~28lbs, her pictures seem deceiving to her actual smaller size.
  • Loves to give hugs and lean on people.
  • Poppy is more of a laid back type dog with spurts of energy. Timid in some situations, still learning the good life.
  • Lots of vetting, Spayed, microchipped, etc , see below. I am heartworm positive and am on slow treatment. Rescues are so use to having heartworm positive dogs that it is nothing new to them. Information below.

History:       Poppy was rescued from a local kill shelter where she was at risk of euthanasia because she was heartworm positive. Just about every dog in this state that isnt on heartworm prevention has heartworms so they are nothing new to us. Poppy was scared at the shelter. We took her out of the cage and brought her to a play pen. She was so sweet! She leaned on her future fosters for a hug. We decided she was the lucky one... she got to leave the shelter that day!

Poppy likely wasn't part of a family before as she had to learn things like what a tv and dryer were. We assume she was left outside in the past. She is catching on! Some situations she can be a little shy or nervous about so she needs someone that is understanding toward her.  We think she has been catching on with her new life quickly though, she did great at a huge adoption event we were at. She needs a family that can continue making her feel safe and loved. We currently do not know how she would do with baby-type children. With her having some nervousness in some situations, we are afraid young children may make her scared but we do not yet know.

About:    Poppy is a very loving girl. She is a shadow that loves to follow you around. Good with other dogs and tends to me a more submissive dog. Will chase and bark at kitties unfortunately. She also like to bark at cattle, other than that she is a rather quiet girl. LOVES to steal and lay on your pillow at night and catch a snooze on the couch during the day. Poppy likes to give hugs and enjoys snacks.  Does best eating out of a slow feeder bowl. Poppy enjoys dog friends.

Poppy is crate trained, she needs to be kenneled when home alone. Sleeps in human bed at night. Currently she is not at a home with a fenced yard, so she goes out to potty on a leash regularly.

House Training Information: As of right now, Poppy needs to be let out around every 2-3 hours or she may have a pee accident. She is young and still learning as this is likely the first home she has ever had. A schedule is key.

* We are ran by volunteers and will try to review your application as quickly as possible. By choosing to adopt you help us open space up to save another life!

     Vetting:

  • Has yearly vaccines and rabies vaccine.
  • Tested for heartworms and was positive. Began slow treatment with a month of doxy pills twice a day and also got her Proheart shot for heartworm prevention. The proheart shot protects dogs from heartworms for 6 months. If you have any questions on heartworms feel free to ask.
  • I had a fecal done.  Dewormed, treated for coccidia and hookworms.
  • I am spayed!
  • I am on monthly Nexguard to protect against fleas and ticks.
  • I am   Microchip ped      ( It is a one time fee covered by donations, so no yearly expenses. We use PetLink. Just ask if you have questions on how microchips work. )

About Applying to Adopt:   This pet has a $100 adoption donation fee. This fee generally NEVER covers how much we actually spend on the animal. We are a 501c3 non profit so the fee goes back into our volunteer rescue to help us save more lives. We function solely on donations.

Step1:  Email rockersrescue@gmail.com and tell us that you will be filling out an application. This is IMPORTANT as sometimes apps do not go through.  Step 2:  Fill out an app at www.adoptapet.com/rockersrescue/dogadoptionapp/     Please be truthful when filling out your app and include as much information as possible. Thank you for considering adoption!
